Environmental Policy
Has committed to the following:
-
To comply with all current legal environmental regulations and other agreements.
-
To prevent contamination of our own activities and those of our partner companies.
-
To spread these concepts and commitment among the staff, various services providers, suppliers and other interested parties in order to create awareness of environmental issues.
Advances in Environmental Issues:
-
Use of resources (resource protection, energetic efficiency and water consumption).
-
National Certification of Clean Production.
-
Handling of residues (warehousing of hazardous residues and recycling).
Protection of Resources:
-
Every Itata's salmon farms has the best available technology with a long stocking density per cage.
-
Elaboration and follow up of ocean seabed bahaviour studies conducted twice a year at all farms.
-
Draining systems for rain water collected on barges later use for sanitary installations.
Energetic Efficiency:
-
We base ourselves on a study with the main energy consumers within processing plants in order to optimize energy function. Under this principle, different control equipments were incorporated to lower by about 10% the consumption of the specific plant.
-
E Pre-viability studies for the use of Non-Conventional Renewable Energy.
Water Consumption
Water, as is well known, is a scarce resource; for this reason, any reduction in water consumption is important. Under this principle, several management measures have been taken to reduce the use of water by around 20%. One of these measures involves incorporating a water recycling system; a new pipe has been installed and connected to the fish discharge circuit from the vessels to the plant. This circuit aims to reduce about 75% of the water used for this task.
Clean Production Certification
The Frozen Fish Plant is certified under a Clean Production Agreement.
Recycling
Itata starts a recycling program through an agreement with the City Council.
